LARRY CARLTON GUITARS · MARCUS MILLER BASSES · MODERN VALUE BRAND

Sire

Sire became widely known through its Marcus Miller basses, then announced a Larry Carlton electric-guitar line for 2020. The catalog has since grown into S-, T-, L-, H-, Q-, X-, Y- and I-series electrics plus Larry Carlton acoustics. Sire is not a post-COVID startup—the useful modern story is how quickly its guitar lineup expanded after the 2020 launch.

OVERVIEW

What to know quickly

GUITAR LAUNCH Sire announced its Larry Carlton electric-guitar lineup for 2020 after first building its reputation around Marcus Miller basses.
CURRENT RANGE S1/S3/S7, T-series, L-series, H7, Q/X/Y modern models and Larry Carlton acoustics now form a broad guitar catalog.
NECK IDENTITY Rolled or 'Edgeless' fretboard treatment is one of Sire's recurring feel-focused selling points.

Do not reduce Sire to one Larry Carlton model. The current catalog now spans classic double-cuts, T-style guitars, single-cuts, semi-hollows, headless models and acoustics.

IDENTIFY YOUR GUITAR

Which Sire do you have?

Sire model names are relatively friendly once the series letter is recognized. Start with the complete model name, generation and any V, DX, F, T, SW or left-handed suffix.

  1. Find the exact series. S, T, L, H, Q, X, Y and I families are different body and construction concepts.
  2. Watch for New Gen labeling. Sire updates models while retaining familiar names, so generation can affect hardware, body wood and electronics.
  3. Photograph pickups and bridge. HSS, HH, P90, tremolo, hardtail and headless hardware can separate close variants.
  4. Check fretboard treatment. Rolled/Edgeless edges are common across signature models and are part of Sire's intended feel.
  5. Do not forget acoustics. A3/A4 and G5 acoustic/classical lines are part of the Larry Carlton catalog too.

USED VALUE GUIDE

Used Sire already looks like a normal mainstream market

Guitar Center showed 45 used Sire guitars in late September 2026, including S-, T-, L-, H-, Y- and nylon/acoustic examples. That is enough supply to compare exact models instead of treating Sire as a novelty brand.

ENTRY / CORE USED Many current examples sit around $350–$600.
HOLLOW / HIGHER SPEC H7/H7F and similar models often appear around $600–$750.
FLAGSHIP / MODERN Higher-spec S, Y and specialty models can approach or exceed $800 used.
  1. Match the generation. A New Gen model may not be the same specification as an earlier guitar with the same family name.
  2. Check fretwork and neck feel. Sire sells heavily on rolled edges and polished playability; damage or poor setup is therefore especially relevant.
  3. Verify pickups and electronics. Signature pickup sets and switching vary by family.
  4. Compare exact body construction. H7 semi-hollow, L-series single-cut and S-series bolt-on models should not share a value pool.
  5. Use current new pricing as a ceiling. Sire remains widely available new, so ordinary used examples need enough discount to justify losing new-guitar support.

HISTORY & COMMENTARY

The guitar story starts after the bass reputation was already established

Sire's modern identity was built first around player-focused instruments and its Marcus Miller bass collaboration. Sire then announced a Larry Carlton electric line for 2020, initially centering on familiar S7, H7 and L7 concepts.

That timing explains why Sire can feel like a post-COVID guitar brand even though the company and its bass reputation predate 2020. What exploded in the early 2020s was the guitar catalog: more classic families, hollow bodies, acoustics, headless instruments and increasingly premium models.
