MONOPRICE HOUSE BRAND · VALUE ELECTRICS

INDIO

Indio by Monoprice focuses on affordable electric guitars and basses, with familiar body styles ranging from Cali and Retro solids to Boardwalk semi-hollows and DLX Plus upgrades. Current new pricing is low enough that used value must stay tied closely to today’s Monoprice price.

USED APPROACH Current new price first

Indio pricing moves with promotions. The same DLX-family guitar can appear at a deep sale price or a much higher regular price, so capture the exact model and today’s new price before setting a used asking price.

IDENTIFY YOUR GUITAR

Which Indio do you have?

Indio model families are easy to confuse if you look only at the silhouette. Start with the full product name—Cali, Retro, Boardwalk, Offset, 66, Classic, DLX or DLX Plus—and then confirm the wood, pickups, bridge and finish.

  1. Find the family first. Cali generally covers S-style instruments, Retro covers T-style ideas, Boardwalk is semi-hollow, and Offset/66 families occupy other familiar shapes.
  2. Separate Classic from DLX / DLX Plus. The upgraded tiers can change body woods, hardware, bridge and pickup specifications.
  3. Photograph the neck joint and electronics. Bolt-on versus set-neck construction, pickup layout and bridge style help separate similar-looking versions.
  4. Use serials cautiously. A broadly published Indio serial decoder was not found for this file; exact model/spec matching is more useful than guessing a date from the number alone.

USED VALUE GUIDE

Low new prices keep the ceiling honest

Indio is a classic “price the exact guitar, not the logo” brand. Condition and setup matter, but buyers can often purchase a new Classic or sale-priced DLX for surprisingly little, which limits used upside.

COMMON CLASSIC About $60–$120
DLX / BOARDWALK CLEAN About $100–$200
PROJECT / NEEDS WORK About $40–$80

GuitarSearch.org working ranges—not an official Monoprice guide. Current sale pricing can change the used ceiling quickly, and upgraded examples should be judged on playability rather than expecting full recovery of modification cost.

  1. Check the live Monoprice price. A current sale can make yesterday’s used comparison obsolete.
  2. Inspect setup instead of assuming it. Monoprice’s own manual tells buyers to check setup and adjust as necessary; individual guitars can still need relief, action, nut or intonation work.
  3. Test all electronics. Cheap switches, pots and jacks are simple to repair but should still affect price.
  4. Value upgrades conservatively. Replacement pickups, tuners or bridges can improve the guitar without adding their full retail cost to resale.
  5. Include the gig bag modestly. Many Indio models ship with one, so it is useful but often part of the expected package.

CURRENT USED MARKET

Four quick searches before you price it

Indio listings are thinner than major-brand markets, and Monoprice promotions complicate comparisons. Use exact-family searches and always cross-check the current new price before treating an asking price as evidence.

What else lives in this neighborhood?

Indio competes most directly with other value-first and house-brand instruments. At these prices, setup quality, fretwork and hardware can matter more than small differences in advertised specifications.

HISTORY & COMMENTARY

Monoprice applied its value-retail formula to guitars

Indio is Monoprice’s guitar and bass brand. Monoprice describes the mission as making premium-style instruments accessible at a fraction of typical marketplace prices and organizes the line around Classic, DLX, DLX Plus, Boardwalk and bass families.

The brand is especially interesting because pricing is part of the identity. Cali and Retro Classics live near beginner territory, while ash/alder DLX Plus models, the Boardwalk semi-hollow and other upgraded instruments stretch higher without leaving the value category. For used buyers, that makes current Monoprice pricing—not age or logo prestige—the best first reference point.
