Blueridge

Blueridge is Saga Musical Instruments’ acoustic-guitar line built around familiar American flattop formats. The important field clue is the model number: BR-40, BR-140, BR-160, BR-180 and related 000/parlor variants can look related while carrying very different tonewoods and price positions.

MODEL CLUEBR number usually tells more than ornament alone

Busy headstocks are a clue—not an identification. Higher Blueridge models can carry ornate pearl/abalone-style headstock work, but the model label is what separates a BR-140 from a BR-160, BR-180 or another family.

IDENTIFY YOUR GUITAR

Which Blueridge do you have?

Blueridge model numbers are the shortest path to an accurate ID. Look inside the soundhole for the label, then match the model to body shape, tonewoods, trim and headstock appointments.

  1. Read the BR / BG model number. BR models include dreadnought, 000 and parlor families; BG codes are associated with slope-shoulder designs.
  2. Check the series before the cosmetics. Contemporary, Historic and higher prewar-inspired lines can share traditional silhouettes while differing in woods and appointments.
  3. Photograph the ornate details. Headstock inlay, herringbone/abalone trim, tuner style and fretboard markers can help confirm a model after the label is read.
  4. Verify solid construction by model. For example, the BR-160 catalog specification calls for a solid Sitka spruce top and solid East Indian rosewood back and sides; do not extend that specification to every Blueridge.

USED VALUE GUIDE

Start with the exact model

Used Blueridge value is driven heavily by the model code and condition. A repaired BR-143 or BG-160 cannot be comped directly against a clean BR-160/180-family guitar simply because all wear the same script logo.

TYPICAL USED~$450–$1,100 common models
HIGHER-SERIES / CLEAN~$900–$1,600+
PROJECT / REPAIROften under ~$500 with structural work
  1. Find the complete model number before comparing prices.
  2. Check the neck, action, frets, bridge and overall structural condition.
  3. Test electronics, pickups, switches, controls, output jack and onboard preamp when equipped.
  4. Look for cracks, bridge lifting, battery leakage, missing hardware or previous repairs.
  5. Compare the exact or closely related model with current retail and recent used-market evidence.

HISTORY & COMMENTARY

A long-running Saga acoustic line built around familiar American forms

Blueridge has been developed by Saga Musical Instruments for decades as a line of traditional steel-string acoustics. Its current catalog divides models into families such as Contemporary and Historic, with higher tiers using progressively more premium tonewoods and ornament.

For a field buyer, the practical story is not “copy of X” but specification density. A Blueridge may present as a familiar dreadnought or 000, yet the BR prefix and number can reveal solid mahogany, solid rosewood, Adirondack-top or more elaborate variants. The label earns the second look; the exact number earns the price.
